Radio amateurs are in a good position to retain regular contact. The repeater website at http://tynelink.net has all the information on the 4 local repeaters running on 2m and 70cm.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) and Anarc

The Angel of the North Amateur Radio club will no longer meet on Mondays. The club will be closed due to the current Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis. This closure has no time period due to the nature of the crisis.

As amateur radio is all about communication we will be shifting our ‘Net meetings on the air to 8pm on Mondays via the GB3HA repeater on 145.750mhz. Repeater details can be found here.

Social media will continue to used as well as email to communicate to members.

On Monday 23rd March there will be an amateur radio exam at the club at 7.30pm. Only candidates and invigilators will be present. This is a one off event . No club members will be admitted.


The club is out and about this morning at Gateshead Central Library.

The Raspberry Pi Jam is an electronics event for the community and young people. We are there transmitting and talking about amateur radio.

QSO for Railways on the Air 2019

The club had a day at Bowes Railway Museum. In 1826 it was at the height of technology as a steam powered rope wagonway. The Bowes Incline was at the top of a hill so in 2019 it’s a good place for radio too.

Railways on the air Saturday  21st September 2019. From 10 am to 3 pm.

Setting up at 9 am.

Railways on the air at The Bowes Railway built by George Stephenson in 1826 at Springwell Rd, Gateshead NE9 7QJ.

The suggested frequencies are: 2, 40 and 80. Metres. NOV: GB0BOW. We will be setting up in the Guards Van on the platform as part of the guided tour and also in a marquee.
